You may have noticed in recent weeks that Obama Administration officials, when confronted either by reporters or by Congress have hedged, bypassed, or given "no-answers" to questions about their involvement, participation, etc. in recent scandalous actual events or "cover-ups."
The slippery behavior of these officials is not without purpose. As a matter of fact, it is part of their agenda. I introduce you to the legal term: "chilling effect."
While you may have heard the term before, you might have not known that it is a legal term that is used to describe a specific action. Here is one of those definitions:
CHILLING EFFECT: In a legal context, a chilling effect is the inhibition or discouragement of the legitimate exercise of a constitutional right by the threat of legal sanction... The right that is most often described as being suppressed by a chilling effect is the right to free speech. A chilling effect may be caused by legal actions such as the passing of a law, the decision of a court, or the threat of a lawsuit; any legal action that would cause people to hesitate to exercise a legitimate right (freedom of speech or otherwise) for fear of legal repercussions. When that fear is brought about by the threat of a libel lawsuit, it is called libel chill...A lawsuit initiated specifically for the purpose of creating a chilling effect may be called a Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation, or "SLAPP" suit. (Wikipedia)While Obama Administration scandalous revelations recently have produced outrage from conservatives, I am speculating that Obamistas have calculated, based on their experience with "man (or woman) in-the-street surveys," that the "general public" is sufficiently tuned out or ignorant of current events to care anything about the controversies swirling in and around Washington these days. And while the White House invokes and implements "Plausible Deniability" with regard to those controversies, the other barrel of their propaganda shot-gun blasts out with the "chilling effect."
Specifically, the recent revelations that the Justice Department has been spying on reporters has not only a "chilling effect," on the reporters and news agencies themselves (regardless of the outrage they may express), the "chilling effect" extends naturally and predictably to reporters sources and resources.
Who would trust a reporter to give information to if they suspected that reporter was being tracked?
That little "factoid" pertains to the Justice Department snooping into reporters' phone records, among other things.
With respect to the IRS, the "chilling effect" may take effect in the form of donors hesitating or refraining from donating to organizations specifically set-up to recruit donors, if the donors knew or suspected that they might be targeted or "flagged" if they donated to an organization that was being investigated by the IRS.
This is not something that might be exploited in the future. This is not something that is being speculated about what will be done. It has already occurred. The Chilling Effect has already been implemented, simply with the revelation that these things have already been done. And before you skeptics jump to conclusions, please note that this is not something spontaneous. It was planned far in advance, "implanted or placed," and is now being executed. In fact, it is known that this was planned years ago.
"...Over the last three years, Democratic senators repeatedly and publicly pressured the IRS to engage in the very activities that they are only now condemning today. At the same time, Republicans repeatedly and publicly warned against this abuse of government power and pointed to a series of red flags that strongly suggested conservative political organizations were being targeted by the IRS. Those warnings were deliberately ignored by the Obama administration and Democratic leaders in Congress..."Brian Walsh of U.S. News has a quip from the New York Times, which says:
"...With growing scrutiny of the role of tax-exempt groups in political campaigns, Congressional Republicans are pushing back against Democrats by warning about the possible misuse of the Internal Revenue Service to audit conservative groups….And the Republicans are also upset about an I.R.S. review requested by Senator Max Baucus, the Montana Democrat who leads the Finance Committee, into the political activities of tax-exempt groups. Such a review threatens to "chill the legitimate exercise of First Amendment rights," wrote two Republican senators, Orrin G. Hatch of Utah and Jon Kyl of Arizona, in a letter sent to the I.R.S. on Wednesday. ... Democrats dismissed the Republicans' complaints as groundless..."That little nugget appeared in the NYT in 2010. Get the picture? The mine field was laid for this next election year, and the aim is to guarantee a victory for Democrats in 2014 and in 2016.
It is now May of 2013, and the political Improvised Explosive Devices are being detonated in the halls of journalism, and in the pockets of potential donors.
If you predict that the very next action by the Obama Administration or its defenders will be to state that the source of the attacks for "all" these scandals is RACISM or "Conspiracy Theories," you may be right.
Critics of the Obama Administration will be labeled racists or conspiracy nut-jobs. And the intent and the result is a "chilling effect."
What's the antidote?
Well, if the Obamistas feel besieged enough to use these tactics, chances are they are teetering pretty close to a precipice they fear they will fall into. So it would absolutely be a mistake to make with regard to the scandals to back-off. In fact, the antidote would include to expose the "chilling effect" far and wide, to call them out on it, and diffuse it and counter it with the relentless pursuit of the truth.
If one has to walk on egg-shells in order to exist "safely" in one's environment, one's Freedoms have long since been compromised, and one is tyrannized and terrorized, and is not living at all.
There are those who do not flinch when it comes to the defense of Freedom. They are crouched in a fox-hole, behind sand bags, or out on patrol, making sure that you are safe here at home.
You are being "chilled." You are being "targeted" anyway, even if you do everything "right." It is time to confront the tyranny and dissolve it forthwith.
